Assault Care & Treatment Program

The Assault Care & Treatment Program promotes a partnership of community services who work together to assist survivors of recent sexual assault and intimate partner abuse. The ACT Program provides nursing care, treatment and information about options and resources.

Program Philosophy

Survivors are believed and provided with unconditional, non-judgmental support.

Program Goals

To empower survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner abuse by:

  • providing a safe place to be heard
  • providing information and options
  • providing care and treatment
  • providing appropriate legal documentation of injuries
  • collecting accurate forensic evidence
  • arranging appropriate referrals to community agencies
  • advocating for the rights and safety of the survivor
  • promoting healthy attitudes about gender roles and healthy relationships

  • forensic evidence collection
  • medical care
  • documentation of injuries
  • anonymous third party report forms
  • counseling referrals
  • treatment for sexually transmitted infections
  • emergency contraceptive pill if within 72 hours of assault
  • HIV testing

A private examination room is located in the Emergency Department at the 7th Avenue Site.

Child and Youth Prevention Services

The ACT Program Support and Prevention Services for Children and Youth aims to provide interactive prevention programs on bullying, healthy relationships, teen dating violence and intimate partner abuse. This service works collaboratively with local schools, parents and community services.
