Chronology

   

1921

 

 

A train accident occurred which led to building the first hospital in Sioux Lookout.

1949  

The Federal Government built and operated a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients for northern First Nations, this was later converted to a general hospital known as the Sioux Lookout Indian Hospital.

1950

 

 

A new Sioux Lookout General Hospital was built, funded by the Province of Ontario.

1971

 

 

The name of the Sioux Lookout Indian Hospital is changed to Sioux Lookout Zone Hospital and is open to aboriginal and non-aboriginal people. 

Late 70's
& 80's

 

Discussions on amalgamating the two hospitals in Sioux Lookout begins.

1996

 

 

A decision is made to finalize agreements to proceed with one regional hospital.

1997

 

 

The Sioux Lookout Four Party Hospital Services Agreement is signed.

2002 - 2004

 

 

The amalgamation of services and consolidation of programs is implemented.

2008

 

 

Construction begins on a new health park.

2009

 

 

Construction on time & on budget.

2010  

Expected completion of construction.
Occupancy late 2010.
