Laboratory
PLEASE NOTE: Our Outpatient Laboratory Hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Lab is CLOSED on Fridays
Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Laboratory Services include biochemistry, immunology, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, transfusion medicine, specimen receiving and dispatch, and an outpatient collection area.
The Hugh Allen Clinic, the Health Canada Appointment Clinic and visiting physician specialists also refer their patients to our laboratory for specimen collection and testing. The laboratory performs lab testing and offers consultation services for the northern First Nation community nursing stations operated by Health Canada. The volume of work sent to our lab from the nursing stations comprises approximately 60% of the total workload of the SLMHC laboratory.
The laboratory provides a 24-hour service in support of all inpatient and outpatient clinical programs for SLMHC.
What to Expect
Coming in for lab work? Appointments are not required. Come to our Ambulatory Care area and check in at Registration before coming to the Lab.
Your doctor or healthcare provider will let you know about any dietary and medication restrictions leading up to your test.
When coming into SLMHC for laboratory work, remember to bring:
- Your health card
- The requisition form
- Any snacks or dietary considerations for after your lab work is complete. This might be a consideration if you have been fasting. We also have a cafeteria on the lower level of SLMHC.
Once you are Registered, you will go to the Laboratory waiting area and will be called in when the technician is ready. Please note that patients are called in order of arrival in the waiting area (first come, first serve).
Once your blood work or specimen collection is complete, you may leave. Your results will be forwarded to your healthcare provider, who will contact you to discuss. Lab services cannot discuss test results with you directly, or provide any kind of diagnosis.
