COVID-19 Assessment Centre opening in Sioux Lookout on March 27
Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) is opening a dedicated COVID-19 Assessment Centre on Friday, March 27, 2020. This out-of-hospital clinic will provide people with an assessment by a health-care provider and offer a test for COVID-19 if required.
This Centre was created through partnerships with the Ministry of Health, Northwestern Health Unit and Ontario Health North, and is intended to enhance the protection of all patients, staff and community members. The COVID-19 Assessment Centre is by appointment only and, for safety reasons, walk-in appointments are strictly prohibited.
Individuals who are concerned about their symptoms are still encouraged to call Telehealth Ontario (1-866-797-0000) or the Northwestern Health Unit (1-800-830-5978) for an over-the-phone assessment. Both of these partners in health can refer individuals to the Centre, but individuals can also call the Assessment Centre directly at 737-5880 to be screened and, if necessary, receive an appointment for an in-person or drive-thru assessment.
The Assessment Centre will be located in the parking lot at the hospital’s Main Entrance in an effort to keep excess traffic away from the Emergency Department and to reduce potential virus spread.
The dedicated phone number is (807) 737-5880 and the hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Assessments for COVID-19 will be conducted by nurses who will provide recommendations to patients regarding self-monitoring, self-isolation and/or treatment.
People who do not have COVID-19 symptoms will not be seen at the Assessment Centre and will be redirected as appropriate. More information about symptoms and COVID-19 can be found online at: https://www.ontario.ca/page/2019-novel-coronavirus
As with any medical emergency, if you need immediate medical attention, please call 911 or report to SLMHC’s Emergency Department.
The SLMHC website will be updated regularly with more information: www.slmhc.on.ca.
