Rehabilitation Services

Physical Therapy (PT) & Occupational Therapy (OT)

The Rehabilitation Department at the 5th Avenue site currently provides acute, chronic and complex client care for inpatients and outpatients operated out of three sites. Specialist services include an orthopedic / orthodic program with Thunder Bay Orthopedics and fracture clinics for visiting orthopedic surgeons on-site. Provision of Physical Therapy services to 28 First Nations Communities in North Western Ontario is also mandated wherever there is a need. In 2003/04, ten communities were visited.

Staff is also active in program development, such as fall prevention, cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation, telehealth programs and wound care. On site staff and community support includes back care sessions and performing work place ergonomic assessments.

The Rehabilitation Department is looking forward to a wide expansion of existing and new services in keeping up with the needs and requirements of the community. The opening of the new facility in 2008 will help facilitate such changes.
